Humanoid beings take Kira’s parents from their home in New Hope. Red Vampires are dispatched with Tic and Ketin who use their hunting skills to track these never seen before beings. The Reds discover Tic and Ketin are not wholly human and have a connection to the supernatural world.

Tic is injured, but they manage to capture the white humanoid that attacked him. Tic and all but one of the Reds return to the city with their captive, while Ketin and one Red continue to follow the trail of Kira’s parents. During a strange blizzard as they get further north of their home, the encounter three hooded figures who can control the snow.

Tic is cared for by the Vampire Medical team, but they are mystified by the changes that his body is going through. As his condition worsens, Kira and Tioxi try to speak with the white captive. Kira discovers that she can understand the being's language. The white one will save Tic, but only in exchange for her freedom.
