"Wow, this book is fabulous preparation for life as a new working mom. I read it for my daughter who might be getting pregnant soon but I wish I’d read it before I had my own 3 children so many years ago. In particular, the idea that parents need to make baby care splitting agreements together before the baby comes is invaluable."

  • Devouring every word and identifying with nearly every example, I flew through this book in two sittings - in fact, two pumping sessions while on maternity leave! As a working mom, comparing notes with other working moms has been so important to me. Reading this book felt like I just connected with so many more all at once! There are some pretty powerful ideas in here which I had never heard of before - an Expecting at Work circle, a Career NPV, white-boarding responsibilities with your partner, etc. I also loved the use of helpful stats - how Google’s extension of maternity leave improved retention, the improvement of mothers' efficiency and productivity with the number of children they have, the lack of positive correlation between time spent with children and their future success. This book to me was a supportive reminder to, as Wei puts it, bring my whole self to work.
  • Quick and easy read with a lot of practical advice that I plan to come back and consult over and over again. As someone who doesn't have kids yet but is thinking about it for the future, I'm very grateful that someone took the time to write down and share not only her own experiences, but also those of a lot of other women in business... I know it will help me avoid a lot of pitfalls down the road. Simultaneously, it helps me be a better manager and leader to those on my team who have kids or who are thinking about having kids. All in all, a worthwhile read!
  • If you thought babies and career growth didn't go together- you're not alone..but in this book you get insight, truth and strategies to show you how grow your career and family in the best possible way - without losing sight of YOU. I loved that the author makes it a point to show how family are vital in this journey, and credits her husband, mother and mother in law as well as her colleagues and managers. A good read, highly recommended for women in the workplace considering having a baby. The list of resources is priceless too.
  • This book is much more than what I expected. It's not only about the impact of having children on your career. It also talks about topics that are as important such as the mix of emotions that women experience during this time in their lives and the impact on their relationships and self-worth. I love that the author candidly shares her own experience, and proves that it is possible--although not easy--to have children and a successful career. Awesome resource!
  • This book is a great resource for women who are planning a family while balancing a career. I love that it presents a realistic view of the challenges of early motherhood while providing simple and yet effective strategies to help cope with some of the emotional and physical stress that accompanies it. The idea of re-entry plan, reaching out and creating circles, whiteboarding specifics tasks to own with your partner, taking the help you can get from family even if it means adjusting your style a bit to accommodate them is all great advice. I wish I had learnt some of these techniques sooner. Overall a quick and fantastic read.
  • This is the first book I've read for myself that does not have to do with sleep training- since our identical twin girls were born 10 months ago. This short read was enlightening and I wished I had read this prior to maternity leave. I never thought of applying an NPV analysis to my own career until I came across this book. I have no regrets about my decision to find a childcare for our kids and continue working. I feel completely empowered to build my career and continue providing for my family.
  • Wow, this book is fabulous preparation for life as a new working mom. I read it for my daughter who might be getting pregnant soon but I wish I’d read it before I had my own 3 children so many years ago. In particular, the idea that parents need to make baby care splitting agreements together before the baby comes is invaluable.
  • I wish this book had existed when I was pregnant with my daughter! As a working mother, this book really resonated with me. It includes a lot of practical tips and genuine, inspiring stories from the author and other women in her life. The more empowered and successful women there are in the workplace, the easier it will be for all of us and for future generations, so I highly recommend this book for all moms and moms-to-be.
